Evan Blake had been in Paris a mere three months, but already parts of the city seemed no different from his hometown in County Clare. "Suddenly you just walk down the street and you see a big Guinness sign," he said. "When you realize the number of pubs outside of Ireland, it's crazy."
Blake is a bartender at Kitty O'Shea's Irish pub in Paris, a city with at least 35 Irish pubs. The French are not alone in their love of whiling away the hours in a cozy Irish pub. The Guinness Import Company of Stanford, Conn., estimates that there are almost 3,000 worldwide, of which 1,850 are newly constructed "theme pubs."
