T. Ryle Dwyer has come up with a clever notion. In recent years, much has been written about both Michael Collins and Eamon de Valera, notably by Tim Pat Coogan, but until now no one has attempted to depict their often inimical, if always inextricable, relationship in one book.
It was a bold undertaking, even if sometimes Ryle Dwyer tries too hard to accommodate two individuals who ultimately were so implacably opposed to one another's philosophy, politics, and actions that, in life, accommodation was unthinkable.
