Legislation that would extend Medicare coverage for immunosuppressive drugs taken by organ transplant recipients for the life of their transplant was reintroduced March 16 in the US Senate and House of Representatives.
The Senate bill (S. 631) was introduced by Sen. Mike DeWine (R-OH) and the House bill (H.R. 1115) by Rep. Charles Canady (R-FL). Both bills are identical to legislation introduced in the Senate in October 1997 and the House in April 1997. DeWine and Canady were the sponsors of those bills as well.
