Apr. 7 -- Tracy's Big Cheese is about to get a lot bigger.
Leprino Foods Co., the nation's largest producer of mozzarella cheese, has gotten approval from the city Planning Commission for $75 million worth of expansion and modernization at its plant on Tracy's eastern edge.
The work will increase plant production by 50 percent.
"We're real excited," said Joel Krine, Tracy-based regional vice president for Leprino. "This project will give us as modern a dairy operation as you'll find anywhere in the country."
