First Bank to Sign National Sponsorship Agreement with Any Major League Sport

BOSTON, April 12 /PRNewswire/ -- Fleet Financial Group (NYSE: FLT) hit another one out of the park today when it announced that it is an official sponsor of Major League Baseball and the 1999 All-Star Game, becoming the first bank to nationally sponsor any major league sport. Terrence Murray, Fleet chairman and CEO, was joined by Boston Red Sox shortstop Nomar Garciaparra and John Harrington, CEO of the Boston Red Sox at a ceremony this afternoon at Boston's historic Fenway Park, site of this year's Major League Baseball All-Star Game.
