Apr. 15 -- Advanced Micro Devices Inc. on Wednesday disclosed the financial cost of its manufacturing problems at the Fab 25 factory in Austin -- a whopping $128.4 million loss for the first quarter.

In all of 1998, AMD lost $104 million, largely because of production problems.

But Chief Executive W.J. "Jerry" Sanders assured investors that production will be better this quarter.

"The best thing that can be said about the first quarter is that it's over," Sanders said in a statement about the January to March period. He added that the company's $157 million decline in revenue from the fourth quarter ...
