The Municipal Water Agency EMPAGUA recently announced that the French company SOGREAH has initiated preliminary investigations to transport water resources in the north-west region of Guatemala to supply the capital city:

The project will consist in collecting the water from the Cuilco River close to the Mexican border and transporting it through the highlands to the capital city by means of a pipeline. It will consist of a 100 kilometer aqueduct which will provide 8,000 liters of water volume per second to Guatemala City and the nearby towns.
