Michael Moore first came to public attention in 1972, when, as an eighteen-year-old, he won election to the Flint School Board, becoming the youngest person in the country to serve in public office. Four years later, Moore founded The Flint Voice (later The Michigan Voice), an alternative newspaper characterized by in-your-face satire and political exposes. Moore augmented his newspaper work by producing and hosting a weekly radio show called Radio Free Flint, and, in 1985, became a commentator on National Public Radio.
