Anemia in channel catfish appears in some cases to be related to feed or feed changes, but the actual cause has been very difficult to determine.
Aquaculture researchers at the University of Georgia have carried out studies to try to ascertain if the cause of anemia in catfish grown in ponds is related to the bacteria Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt), but they were unable to produce an acute anemia by feeding the organism to fish used in the trials.
