In a speech given by A. Gary Shilling, noted economist and commodity trading advisor, at Futures South, he discussed the deflationary. forces now at work and how to take advantage of them in trading. He emphasized that deflation can be good or bad, and that there are trading opportunities with both kinds. An example of good deflation was in the late 1800s, during which the railroad expedited the distribution of western goods, as well as the 1920s, in which various pressures kept inflation in check while growth continued.
