Museums themselves are the focus of a new exhibition at New York's Museum of Modern Art
Museums have always been considered admirable. Recently, they have become more accessible. Blockbuster shows, touring exhibitions and museum stores have mixed global culture and commerce, luring a younger, more diverse audience to museums around the world. The museum's relationship with contemporary artists has changed, too. In the early part of the century, they were ignored. Later, they were embraced, but by the 1960s, some weren't so sure they wanted to be part of an institution that still seemed to represent the old guard.
