Saint-Gobain Industrial Ceramics Inc has purchased Union Carbide Corp's Crystal Products business unit for an undisclosed amount.
Based in Washougal, Washington, USA, Crystal Products has annual sales of about $12 million and employs 100 people in the manufacture of:
* sapphire substrates for blue light emitting diode (LED) and laser diode devices;
* wafers for silicon-on-sapphire applications;
* a variety of crystals for solid-state laser applications.
