The title is doubled-edged, no doubt deliberately so. The book's purpose is to explain Canada to Americans. Its theme is that the United States owns more of Canada and dominates more of what it doesn't own than it does of any other country. Nevertheless, there are important differences between us. Canada is not, as all too many Americans seem to think, merely a northern extension of the United States. The differences as well as the similarities form the subject of the book.
