Deputy Oil Minister for Caspian Affairs, Majedi was appointed to this post in September 1997. He is in charge of E&P ventures in what NIOC regards as Iran's sector of the Caspian Sea, where blocks were offered to foreign companies in 1998, and of all other projects related to the Caspian region. He has pushed for E&P operations in the sea to go ahead before the Caspian's legal status is finalised. But the foreign ministry has taken an opposite view.
