NEW YORK _ As the 2000 presidential campaign lurches toward the starting line, one of the unresolved questions is the role religious conservatives will play.
The New York Times has already declared that ``the movement is struggling without a clear strategy.''
Paul Weyrich, president of the Free Congress Foundation in Washington, wrote a widely circulated letter declaring that attempts to restore morality ``through the political process have failed.''
