NEW YORK, May 4 /PRNewswire/ -- The International Congress of Independent Internet Users (ICIIU) today announced that present and future domain name holders in .COM, .ORG, and .NET will be asked to sign registration contracts that grant wide-sweeping rights to registrars.

ICANN, the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers, has been granted authority by the U.S. Department of Commerce to regulate the allocation and use of domain names. This new regulatory agency, which is not yet supported by legislation and whose initial board of directors is unelected, is accrediting new domain name registrars and telling them to impose contracts on applicants.
