Last fall, the Air Force Research Laboratory's Manufacturing Technology Division (ManTech) convened a meeting of 30 high-level purchasing officials from aerospace and defense organizations to discuss plans and initiatives for supply-base development.
The meeting, held at the Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Ohio, was an important initial step in a major ManTech initiative (dubbed the SME Initiative) that will set a goal for prime and sub-prime Air Force contractors to foster improvements among the small- or medium-size enterprises (SMEs) within their supply bases.
