After 13 years of planning and setbacks, the Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art (MASS MoCA) is finally set to open on May 30 [see A.i.A., Oct. '96]. The brainchild of Guggenheim director Thomas Krens, who was director of Williams College Museum of Art during MASS MoCA's inception, the project has evolved under the direction of Joseph Thompson, who was part of the original Williams College team and has been in charge since 1988.
