Sitting in my Jerusalem synagogue on Pesach, so close to the annual commemoration of the tragedy and bravery of the Jewish people in the Shoah and the fiftieth anniversary of the triumph and bravery of the Jews of Israel in the struggle to reestablish the Jewish state all within a month, I could not help thinking about the extraordinary convergence of events of the past decade. Since 1989 we have celebrated the fall of Soviet Communism, the centenary or jubilee anniversaries of the World Zionist Organization, the State of Israel, and most of the major Jewish bodies that have shaped current Jewish life.
