It used to be that professors at esteemed institutions such as Boston College were scholars, committed to the thorough inquiry into the truth. It also used to be that scholarly magazines such as the Kappan had publication standards somewhat higher than those of a libel attorney at the National Enquirer. Judging by the article appearing in the December issue by Nancy Zollers and Arun Ramanathan on special education in Massachusetts charter schools, "For-Profit Charter Schools and Students with Disabilities: The Sordid Side of the Business of Schooling," neither is the case any longer.
