Emotions of Virtue
To the Editors:
This past summer Roger Kimball devoted an installment of his series, "Reflections on a Cultural Revolution" to Eldridge Cleaver (June 1998). At the end of the article I was surprised to discover some critical remarks on an article of mine, "A Tale of Two Reactions" that appeared in The New York Review of Books (May 14, 1998). Not surprised at the criticism, of course, which is legitimate and worth responding to, but at finding myself paired in Mr. Kimball's mind with this louche figure. It must have been a hot summer in New York.
