May 12 -- Wanek's Furniture and Appliances has closed its store in Crete, Neb., but will reopen Saturday for a final sale to liquidate all its merchandise, one of the owners said Wednesday.
"We will stay open until everything is gone," said Dale Wanek, who, with his twin brother, Alan, is a co-owner of the store.
After all the merchandise is sold, the Waneks will try to rent the 120,000-square-foot building to another tenant, he said.
The closing will bring to an end a business that was started by Bob Wanek, the father of Dale and Alan, in 1955 in a 12-foot-by-15-foot store in downtown Crete. In the ...
