FREMONT, CALIF.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 17, 1999--
HMT Technology Corporation (Nasdaq:HMTT) announced today the demonstration of a 20.9 Gbit/in(2) recording density using its advanced ultra low noise, ultra smooth disk media in conjunction with high density Giant Magneto-Resistive (GMR) recording heads produced by ReadRite Corp. (Nasdaq: RDRT). This areal density translates to greater than 29 Gigabytes of storage capacity on a single 3 1/2" diameter disk. The areal density point represents a new world record in storage density.
The HMT media used in this demonstration had a Mrt of 0.4 memu and coercivity of 2500, both values well within mass production ...
