May 14 -- FORT WORTH, Texas -- Tandy Corp. said yesterday that it is forming an alliance with the maker of RCA brands to create an audio-video "store within a store" at its 7,000 Radio Shack outlets.

The deal with Thomson Multimedia is patterned after a successful formula that Tandy pioneered two years ago with Sprint in telecommunications and later unveiled with Compaq Computer.

Sales of televisions and video products have stalled at Radio Shack because its in-house brand, Optimus, has not stirred consumers. Yesterday's deal will let Radio Shack sell RCA's entire line of products, including TVs, ...
