May 12 -- The Red Lion Hotels & Inns brand will be rejuvenated and expanded from 20 Red Lions to 100 within four years, its owners said Tuesday.
The strategy represents a general reversal of an earlier plan in which most of the 56 Red Lion properties were converted to DoubleTree brands after DoubleTree Corp.'s 1996 acquisition of Red Lion Hotels Inc. Promus Hotel Corp. of Memphis, Tenn., acquired DoubleTree in 1997.
