May 11 -- QUESTION: In March 1997, my wife and I subscribed to a two-year contract for two phones through 360 Communications. Both phones had basic and one had roamer service. The contract said that if we canceled before it ended, we would have to pay $200 per phone. We paid $60.33 in advance for recurring monthly charges.

We completed our agreement this past March and called to cancel. Nothing had been said about advance notice.

In the meantime, 360 Communications had become Alltel. Alltel said we had to pay for the final month even though we had paid for one month in advance.
