E-commerce companies, beware.
In response to public outcry about the gathering and use by commercial web site operators of personal information from children, Congress and the Clinton Administration last October enacted the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act, or COPPA.
COPPA regulations proposed by the Federal Trade Commission will undergo a comment period next month and are expected to be effective for commercial web sites beginning in April 2000.
