The story is told of the man who went to his psychiatrist complaining of the feeling that people were after him and wanting to know what could be done about it. After a one-hour session, the psychiatrist told the patient, "You aren't paranoid. They really are after you."
At one time or another, many of us have felt a tinge of paranoia when we thought the world was picking on us. Sometimes, it made us feel we could do nothing right, and we almost convinced ourselves that there was no use in even trying. (Kids especially react this way to demanding parents.)
