THE TRUE FIBER OF THE FASHION WORLD IS THE FIBERS THEMSELVES -- animal, vegetable and chemical, without which no fabrics or apparel would exist. And while the animal and vegetable ones have been around a lot longer than 100 years, the chemical or man-made fibers have completely evolved in the past century, mostly in the last 50 years.
In 1900 there was no polyester, microfibers, nylon, rayon (cuprammonium or otherwise), no acetate, no spandex stretch, no bulletproof fabrics and no fiberfill jackets.
Even natural fibers have undergone some important changes in this century, although they have been in the apparel business as long as it has existed.
