May 23 -- Golfers teeing up at Myrtle Beach's Whispering Pines Golf Course last week weren't the only ones quietly focused on the task at hand. Near a green, a snowy egret gingerly hunted for lunch in a water hazard.
The egret is part of a growing list of animals making the city-owned course home.
That warms the heart of course superintendent Bob Warner.
From turtles basking on a log to woodpeckers hammering on standing-dead trees, Warner and general manager Richard Kirby want their course to be as environmentally friendly as possible.
