For more than thirty years, Charla Pereau has been helping Mexican orphans and the children of Oaxacan indian migrant workers in almost total obscurity.
The Oaxacan Indian woman knelt by the side of a narrow dirt road that rarely saw travelers. She clutched a small bundle in her arms, her frail features etched with the panic of a mother whose child is dying. Waving a thin arm and crying out, she gestured frantically at a solitary vehicle passing on the rutted road. Weeping, she desperately pleaded in an unknown language with the woman who stopped, asking for food for her child. Unable to persuade the mother to come with her, the traveler assured the Indian woman ...
