A recent study has shown that New York may not be the best place for your heart.

According to research conducted by psychologist Nicholas Christenfeld of the University of California at San Diego, New Yorkers' death rates from heart attack are 55 percent higher than the U.S. average.

Getting out of New York does wonders for the heart. When New Yorkers visit outside the city they die of coronaries at a rate 20 percent lower than if they had stayed home, Christenfeld told USA Today.

He analyzed death certificates from 1985 to 1994. The findings take into account age, sex and race, which affect death rates from heart attack.
