Two loading journals of opinion have new looks-all that heady content is being repackaged.
In April, two thoughtful magazines, the(New Republic and policy Review, traded in old looks for new: What constitutes "new," however, is open to translation. TNR has gone edgy and slick, Policy Review spare and subtle.
TNR now sports the teeming, color-saturated look of a hip newsstand entity. The 85-year-old journal hired Roger Black, former art director of the New York Times and Rolling Stone who also retooled visuals for Esquire, Advertising Age and Working Woman. Intellectualism, it would seem, is now lifestyle.
