AFTER 20 years of controversial restoration, Leonardo da Vinci's new and improved "Last Supper" was being prepared for unveiling to the public in Milan last week. Italy's minister of culture hailed the work of Pinin Brambilla and her team at the church of Santa Maria delle Grazie as the "restoration of the century", and there will no doubt be other cries of wonder from assorted experts who favour this kind of aesthetic resuscitation.
