Article: Motorola to Hire 500, Expand Chandler, Ariz., Plant.

May 28 -- After a yearlong delay caused by a tremendous slump in the semiconductor industry, Motorola Inc. said Thursday that it is starting a $90 million expansion of its Chandler plant that will ultimately create up to 500 jobs.

The construction plans are part of the previously announced $1.1 billion development of its MOS-12 wafer-fabrication plant. The expansion is scheduled to be completed in 2002, and the new employees will earn an average of $45,000 to $50,000 annually.
