A new product under development has been found to stimulate the production of "protective" cholesterol in post-menopausal women, according to a new study sponsored by pharmaceutical company Novogen Limited (Nasdaq: NVGN, ASX: NRT).

The product, known as P-081, is derived from an extract of red clover and contains plant estrogens known as isoflavones. The concept of P-081 comes from current knowledge that a number of different isoflavones have a beneficial effect on the body's production of cholesterol, although the effect is generally modest.
