Student teaching is the most important event or learning experience in the development of a beginning teacher (Tannehill & Zakrajsek, 1988). Research has shown that performance in student teaching is a strong predictor of successful inservice teaching (Day & Brightwell, 1978). Clearly, the student teaching experience has the potential to bridge the gap between the theory learned in a teacher preparation program and the "real world" practice of teaching in the schools.
