CARLSBAD, Calif.--Callaway Golf Co. will break into the golf ball industry in January with the release of the first ball manufactured at its new Carlsbad plant.
Callaway representatives disclosed few details about the balls or the manufacturing facility, although a spokesman said several people would like to know about the design and composition of the new balls.
In 1997, Callaway committed up to $100 million to build the factory. The spokesman would not divulge how much has been spent on the facility.
Charles Yash, formerly of Taylor Made Golf Co., is managing the facility.
