Life after McDonald's exec suite: Quinlan serves up take on history
When retirement comes at 54 -- as it did suddenly for McDonald's Corp. Chairman Michael R. Quinlan this month -- there's always the question: What next? One longtime friend says Mr. Quinlan, a McDonald's lifer, is concerned about lingering perceptions that he'll end up the main villain in the turnaround epic being directed by new Chairman Jack M. Greenberg.
On the West Side where Mr. Quinlan grew up, that's called wearing the jacket, and his friend says he frets about the impact on post- McDonald's invitations to teach and serve on boards.
