Jun. 8 -- MONTREAL -- Ten years ago, the signing of the US-Canada Free Trade Agreement caused a sea change in the way the world's two largest trading partners do business.
But Canadians are wondering whether the anniversary warrants cheers, jeers or even tears.
Not in this century has an economic issue split Canadians or roused more anti-American feeling than the 1989 pact that knocked down most remaining barriers to the flow of goods and services between the two countries. The US-Canada deal led directly to the North American Free Trade Agreement, or NAFTA, which came five years later when Mexico signed on.
