For Thomas Maxwell, president and owner of Maxwell Hardwood Flooring of Monticello, one key for success in small business is to demonstrate a commitment to the company by supporting its employees.
In 1992, Maxwell decided to get away from his background in sales after more than 20 years of work with flooring companies. Seizing an opportunity, he bought an existing company in Monticello and, starting with 33 employees, Maxwell Hardwood Flooring was born.
Today, the company has more than 100 workers. Maxwell says his goal is to double the company in the next three to five years. Meanwhile, the company has experienced an annual growth rate of 20-25 percent.
