Had I but known, that rainy day in May as I sat in a refurbished but still tradition-soaked Coolidge Auditorium listening to a day-long succession of papers to which I - fatigued and famished - could add only a few casual comments and an inadequate expression of gratitude and appreciation, that I would be reconfronted by those disquisitions along with an at least stern suggestion that I respond or, at least, comment more than casually, I would have spent that day wondering what I could say after I'd said I'm really beholden. From what, at what could I, in all modesty or immodesty, demur? Not even from Joseph Dubiel's gentle admission of obstreperousness, or Marion Guck's ...
