In boating, as in life in general, it's often more important to know what not to do than what you should do. Discretion is the better part of just about everything.
For example, remember when you learned not to stick your finger into fire? I vividly recall the searing pain generated by a dozen tiny candles atop my birthday cake the day that lesson was burned into my subconscious - not to mention my index finger.
