Although many influential organizations have been emphasizing the importance of evidence based-practice for several years, recent studies have shown that only a small percentage of health care providers are incorporating research findings into practice (Shorten & Wallace, 1997). A meta-analysis of nursing intervention studies found that patients receiving research-based nursing interventions could expect 28% better outcomes than patients receiving non-research-based interventions (Heater, Becker, & Olson, 1988).
