Summary:The pan-European Energy Charter Conference had put energy efficiency at the top of its priorities for 1999, but budgetary problems have been holding up its work. The Working Group could not even begin its task before its first meeting on June 10 and 11. It has now approved a revised work programme for 1999 and has also decided to undertake a screening exercise of energy efficiency situation and policy on a few member countries. The latter volunteered to become 'guinea pigs' before the exercise is extended to more countries.
