Jun. 16 -- LE BOURGET, France -- Like two politicians, Lockheed Martin and Boeing are trading jabs in their all-or-nothing campaign for the military's 3,000-airplane Joint Strike Fighter contract. And the gibes have added considerable entertainment at the industry's Paris Air Show this week.

Companies often don't like to discuss competitors -- but not in this case. Boeing is crowing about being under cost, a sly reference to Lockheed Martin's admission of a cost overrun this year. Lockheed Martin, in turn, is whispering about why Boeing needed to redesign the tail section of its JSF entry.
