WASHINGTON, June 21 /PRNewswire/ -- In a suit filed in U.S. District Court in Washington, D.C., the Navajo Nation is seeking recovery of $600 million in damages from Peabody Coal Company for unlawful acts defrauding the Navajo Nation. Los Angeles-based Southern California Edison Company, the Arizona-based Salt River Project, other Peabody holdings and three current and former Peabody employees also are cited in the suit for their role in an alleged scheme to defraud, corrupt, cheat, steal and deprive the Navajo Nation of the full benefit of its coal resources.
