Axel Verhoustraeten remakes a traditional Brussels apartment into a contemporary abode.
THINK OF BELGIUM and images come to mind of the Flemish masters, surrealist painter Rene Magritte, author George Simenon (of Inspector Maigret fame), as well as handmade chocolates, exquisite lace, pomme frites with mayonnaise, moules, waffles, Duvel beer, and, in Brussels, the European Union, NATO, the Grand' Place (the picture-perfect 17th-century central market square), and, of course, the Manneken Pis, a kitsch monument on the standard sight-seeing circuit.
