Better consultation between the tyre makers and the filler suppliers would allow better planning of silica capacity expansions, a recent meeting, on carbon black in Italy heard.
North American carbon black producers are profitable, but are under pressure from the tyre firms to cut prices. Long-term contracts--in operation in North America for a while--may go worldwide, at least for the three global suppliers.
Silica suppliers need better feedback from the tyre companies on their future plans for use of silica in tyres, according to Degussa-Huls executive Martin Hess.
