Jun. 16 -- More than 100 medical specialists in the Kanawha Valley have now said they'll no longer deal with patients who are covered by Aetna U.S. Healthcare.
As a result, some specialty areas in Kanawha and Putnam counties appear to be critically understaffed for Aetna patients.
For example, all three adult infectious disease specialists on Aetna's provider list have said they won't take payments from Aetna any longer.
Dr. Fred Kerns officially terminated his relationship with Aetna last week. Drs. Sandra Elliott and Susie Matulis did so Tuesday. None of the doctors returned phone calls Tuesday.
